Changed out the battery in the TH dock feeder. Ran 2) test cycles at 4 secs each. BG fed hard until the LMB showed up and started blowing them out of the water...exciting stuff! Water was 68 degrees.

I checked for winter killed RES and didn't find any, yeah! It's been a long month in that regard. I also checked for YP ribbons and didn't see any, then fished for a little bit in a cold north breeze and caught a few large GSH. Still waiting on warmer water temps here.

Very cool Pat!

How's the BCP fishing? Up here, when the water temp hits 55 or so, it's game on!

Good news Shorty. Did you have any winter kill other than RES? Do you think it was the temp or something else that got the RES?

Kinda slow on the BCP.... think the Anhinga is doing well on the BCP... the cormorants not doing too bad either. I think the BCP have only gotten one spawn off since the lake was dug... 8" is the only size that I can catch

Bill, just a few small GSH at ice out, everything else has been all winter killed RES. We had had a good stretch of abnormally warm weather back in February that took the ice off the pond very quickly, I am guessing that the rapid ice melt mixed the water column quickly and killed a significant number of my RES. Most of the dead RES I have picked up have been from a single extremely large year class in the 6" to 8" size range, smaller and larger RES are noticeable absent for some odd reason. In the last 4 weeks I have picked 116 dead RES over 6" with only four 9" RES and three over 10". The ones popping up over the last week are very decayed, they are missing skin, eyeballs, and cheeks. Water temps in the 40's have made this a very slow drawn out process.

That is pretty sickening Shorty. Sorry to hear that. I've been catching a few so hope mine are ok.

Nice fish Zep! Some of my favorite times to fish are right before a storm blows through.

Pretty fish Mark. It's a nice day to be out and about. Tomorrow looks like a nap day. The wind just flipped.

Shorty, sorry abut your RES. I always enjoy pics of your fish.

Thanks guys....because a guest using minnows continually catches more fish than me...

I finally decided "if ya can't beat 'em...join 'em".

Now I am catching more fish every weekend using minnows.

I still throw artificial baits, but good grief these minnows produce some great fish.

I took a drive to my pond with intentions of feeding (which I did) but threw a crankbait in first and a chunky 5lber snatched it up near the bank . Water levels are at full pool from the recent rains. Bass and bluegill were eating pellets pretty aggressively for being this early in the year. Usually pics are more clear but these were taken with my phone.

Took my son and three of his kids on a boat ride/fishing trip at our pond. They had a lot of fun with the CNBG and BG!

Many thanks to Chief Pondmeister Bob Lusk, who recommended these panfish. Grandkids call the CNBG "Tiger Bluegill" for their stripes and attitude...

I started up my aeration system with a 30 min run yesterday and will bump it up to an hour today. Six Kasco diffusers in this 3.4 acre to 3 acre pond. Last year, I ran it 24-7 and in August the water temp was at or around 90 degrees , so now I am thinking I may just run the system at night only during the hot time of the year. I also added another brush pile along the ponds edge. Hoping to improve on lmb fingerling survival and improve the survival of cnbg fry. I have a lot of cnbg in the 4 to 10" size and have caught and released an 11" cnbg.

Do not judge me by the politicians in my City, State or Federal Government.

I moved the diffusers back to deeper water, after a winter spent in the shallows. Actually, never ran the system at all this past winter. Don't believe that's ever happened before. As I'm motoring them back out deep, the air line broke off at the diffuser manifold, so that necessitated a trip to the dock and a repair. While I had them high and dry I fired up the compressor and found a couple more annoyances, one being that the pump wouldn't start. A flip of the motor cured that issue, and it restarted several more times with no further issue. It appears sitting idle all winter didn't agree with it.

The second issue revolved around the membranes being severely plugged up. To the point that replacement is in order. I think I will move away from the high dollar membranes, and substitute replacement by less expensive diffusers every couple years. Ideally, I would replace them before placement, but I was counting on the aeration to help distribute the dye I also planned to add yesterday. So down they went, with the full knowledge that they will be coming back up in a week or two.

Put the dye in, no issues there thank goodness.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Cool picture RAH! Looks like a great white egret. We had one on our pond this morning as well. Two old sayings came to mind, "Wolf in sheep's clothing" and "a rose by any other name is still a rose." IIRC great white egrets are herons and IMO are just GBH in disguise, even if they are called egret! They are in my pond to stab my fish and frogs! mad

We had a pair of wood ducks today, they were not cooperative about getting their picture taken.
