Is there any good sources for pond plants?

What I am looking for is

Dwarf Sagittaria subulata
vallisneria corkscrew

Going to start these in some large pools for the summer then plant in the fall into the pond.

Any thoughts on a good source or other additions to a perch pond with the hopes to start a shrimp population.

I see. Did you buy a few bundles and grow it out before adding it to the pond or just drop it into the pond?

I bought like 3 bundles. They were some of the first plants I tried planting and had no idea on how to go about it so I just stuck them into the bottom of the pond. They pretty much all floated up and away by the next day. If I had a "do over", I would have planted them in burlap pouches in pond soil and drop them in shallow water. That is the technique I have since learned from RAH and it has worked well for me on everything. I haven't tried the Dwarf Sagittaria again using that technique.

I would plant them in containers if you want to propagate them to divide. Just make sure you weight them down or put them in pouches until they take hold or they will be floating up all the time.

Good call on the weights. Was thinking of getting some and starting them in large tubs out side with soil. With the hope of them filling the tub with a mat. Cutting the mat up and tying to stones and planting it.

Might fit it into our aquaculture system.... the grow out bed.

I'd like to take credit for the burlap bag idea, but I have never used it. I have used honey locust branches successfully to keep critters from eating the plants. They just rot away after a while.

An honest man! I've been giving you credit for the burlap bag idea in posts for the last couple years!

Will the member that came up with this idea please step forward and take a bow. I've used it from Lilies to Duck Potato with great success. It is an awesome technique! Really nice for an old guy like me cause I can just stand on the shore and toss the bags in!

By burlap pouches, are you referring to old onion bags or do you buy burlap material?

I just buy cheap burlap in a roll at a big box store like this but an old burlap onion sack cut up should work great. You just don't want a tight weave burlap.

I cut the right size piece for the plant and then put some pond bottom soil on it and plant the plant. I then pull up the corners of the burlap around the "stem" of the plant and tie it with jute twine. Toss it in the pond where you want it and in a few months after the plant is established the burlap and the twine degrade. For lilies, I drop the pouch in shallow water until leaves come to the top (a week or two) and then take a pole and push the pouch to deeper water.

Great idea on the burlap. I had some natural burlap on the floating island and it all was gone after one season.

I did the burlap bag deal a couple of yrs ago. Bill, we discussed back then. A small bag (hand size) with some small rocks and plants added to the bag to weight it down. And then just toss it in where your want the salad to grow. I tossed out 50+ bags and the crawfish had a great time taking every sprout down. And as of today, I still have no plants in the water.

I am going to get some kid pools and load the bottom of the pool with different grasses. Dwarf sag first, it should do well in shallow kiddy pool. Make a sod mat of this then cut it into large squares. Adding pea stone to the top as it grows I am hoping the sod will sink to the bottom.

Going to start it with the Miracal-Gro organic choice soil. There is lots of good nutrients but not too many to mess up water chem.
