Me too Al ! But I use traps.

I have found that beaver dislike like lead and steel ! You only get 1 shot though and not easy to do. Find the narrow spot in the trail and put a trap. On either side of the trap stick sticks in the ground like a fence to funnel them into the trap placed across the trail.

Fish has always been fairly low on my preferred list also TJ, but I'm telling you, fixed right, it is good eating.

My family craves fish 1x annually, that's about it. I want to get them into fish tacos, might increase the demand around the house. I don't have a problem harvesting underperforming fish, but I'm blessed with a great problem where most of my fish are over 100 WR due to feeding program and good forage base. In the end, female BG are about the only fish I don't have a problem harvesting.

Added an Agri Drain inlet water level control structure to the YP/SMB pond. Bought it last year and will raise the water level 4" per year for 3 years.

RAH, please post some pics of your riser. Does it leak much, if any?

I could spend thousands at Agri Drain.

This is the second one that I bought, and they used inline one's on each of two wetlands that were mitigated on my place. They have worked great for me, but I plan to cover this one, like the last, to keep most of the UV off the PVC. I am not sure how much that will extend their life, but it can't hurt. It also allows the pipe to carry more water under flood conditions by preventing a vortex.

Rah, is that a 2' tall model pictured? I see they make sizes 2' to 6' but can also make custom sizes.

I need to get one of those rat guards. I periodically have muskrats use the overflows to travel from creek to pond and from pond to pond. If they were prevented from using the protected pathways of the overflow tubes it would force them to get above ground and the red tail hawks have access to them. grin Which would save me having to trap them.

I raise a bit at a time to give marginal plants a chance to adapt and spread up the bank, and to avoid too much decaying matter from being submerged at a time. The rat guards cut down on muskrats, but plenty still find a way to the ponds and wetlands. My neighbor trapped out 21 last winter.

Did you have them caged because you are concerned about predators?

Today was the first day that I've fished since surgery 6 weeks ago. My wife and I caught a few BG and GSF for fun (C&R). But, man it was hot. 104 degrees up in Leggett, TX.

We had an inch and a half of rain last week and 2 1/2" this past Thursday up there. The pond is back up to full level...for now.

Good news all around,, keep up the quick recovery.
I was cleaning out my pm and came across one where you and Williamson threatened a road trip up to Bill Ds place if I could have Cecil try to take me over. Still possible? Don't worry about what Bill says, If we all just show up he can't do much.

I sure miss Cecil's input here on the forum!I found his projects interesting and informative.I may need to pick his brain sometime down the road.I may send him a friend request on Facebook.I don't want him to think I am a stalker though.I guess I can tell him that I know Bob-O! I am sure that would alleviate all of his fears!! smirk No pond therapy today because I am on duty.Mowed around the pond and ran trimmed the island with a weedeater.Trapped a few minnows trying to catch some BG or RES minnows.

Had a friend over today for some BG culling and we caught 30 pretty decent ones in an hour.

After 4 years of raising them (as well as the HSB and LMB), there's no doubt it takes a certain mindset to put them under the knife, other than for the sake of fishery management, but given the circumstances, family and friends will be well fed!

Every one in my family loves fish and they either like the way I prepare it, or just happy I'm the one doing it (more likely). But with the downside of spending all my time breading and frying I decided to try and bread them before freezing and it works great. Now all I have to do is pull them out of the freezer and into the fryer or oven they go. Now I'm putting in the time before the fish-fry instead of during.

Snrub, I too use Panko bread crumbs and also crushed Corn Flakes (mom's favorite), and for a thinner style breading, Zaterain's Crispy Southern Fish Fri is very good as well, especially for smaller fillets.

Fresh, fried and flaky! smile

Had a good friend and his family get some water lily starts. His last ones seemed to succumb to a snapper. He will fence these!

Went to the farm yesterday and got to work on the brood ponds a little. Also, fishing is on hold for now as the surface temp is just under 90 degrees F.

Today, I worked on a new airlift system for Tilapitopia 4. The new airlift is about 20% better and can lift water an additional inch above the waterline. It has been a good weekend.

Those fillets look great Keith. Never thought of using corn flakes.

Wifes attempt at freezing already breaded we did not like as well. Must not have the process correct yet. Have to try it again sometime.

No pond for me for a while other than a very big pond called Caribbean doing one of my other passions watching fish and critters under the water. Boy are my BG going to be pissed at me. Grandson only feeds them a couple times a week while I'm gone instead of daily. Will be surprised if they even speak to me when I get home!
