Caught several CC in the last week that were about a pound and a half that were the first ones that I have kept since stocking them last summer. They were both full of eggs. Here is the question..... Will they spawn in my 5 ac pond and when?

I want to say that CC need specific spawning structures which are horizontal cavities or 'holes,' or cylindrical shapes on their sides.

If you want them to spawn, put some 12 inch or slightly larger concrete or weighted PVC culverts partially closed on one end into about 4 to 5 feet of water.

Larger submerged tires also will be used by CC for nesting. PVC pipe and most anything that forms a cavity can be used.

Pat,

IMHO the depth is fine. I would have cut those pipes in three or four pieces though and at least partially blocked one end. Think their own private little cave. I would also place them perpendicular to the shore with the opening faced away from the shore(prevents wave action from filling the cave with silt). IMHO the new babes won't stand much chance with all those BCP anyway unless you have some good cover near by.

Of course you know I ain't no pro. Just tellin you how I would do it.

Yep, drop some of these in the pond. Then around this time of year, dive down and stick your arm in the hole...
