I have recently purchased property in Maine that included a 15 acre spring fed pond. According to the previous owner the pond is abundant with Brown Trout, Perch and unfortunatly leeches.

I want to start a Bass population and find it hard to believe there is not already somewhat of a largemouth population. Where do I start?

What affect if any do leeches have on fish habitat? Is there any way to control leeches? Will the right fish population control the leech population for me?

I have so many other questions but Ill leave it at this for now, any help would be appreciated.

I'd say the first place to start is with getting out there and putting in some serious fishing and observing time. See what you catch, take notes, see what you notice swimming around. Take note of the depth of the water, obvious structure, temperatures etc. etc. Then consider getting a professional in to do some electro-shocking, if you have no previous experience in pond management a 15 acres pond/lake a is pretty big place to start. It might be worth the initial cost of having someone come in when you weigh the long-term benefits. Is this body of water fed by any other source then the 'springs'?

Thanks for the information....

The pond is not fed by anything but natural springs in the pond.
