I understand I cant apply the liquid Cutrine Plus all the way around the edge of the pond at the same time. How far do I go around each application? 1/3 ?, and How long should I wait in between applications to avoid a fish kill?.

I will tell you what the PB crew has taught me, and then you can watch for one of the moderators to fill in the blanks.

Depending on how much FA you kill, it may reduce your water's oxygen levels too much, which can lead to fish kill. SO only treated around a third at a time helps to reduce the chances of this happening. There are lots of other considerations (water quality, use of aeration, etc) which can affect how much and how frequently you treat. Hope this helps.

Like was said, it depends.

First off, read and understand the label. Granular or Liquid? Do you understand what circumstances dictate what product is used and where it is used? Understand how to mix it and how to apply it (that is different than how much of an area you should apply it to). I can treat a whole pond at once if there is only a foot or two of FA around the pond. If there is a carpet out 30' from shore, I might not even do a 1/3 treatment, it might be less.

There's a lot of variables like DrLuke said. Aeration or not? What's the water temp? What kind of fish are in the pond? How much FA is there? How big is the pond, and how deep is the water?

Esshup I know you have responded to questions of mine regarding the use of Cutrine Plus. Thanks for your answers I learn a lot from your insight. I will try to answer your questions one by one.

Liquid Cutrine- 4 gallons.

1/2 acre pond, deepest 9ft shallow 2 ft. Oval shaped.

No aeration

Bass, CNBG, Gizzard Shad (Tons)

FA is about 1- 1 1/2ft surrounding the bank all the way around with sparse floating clumps.

Label reads 9 to 1. Is that 9 parts water 1 part Cutrine?

9:1 tank mix. 9 oz water to 1 oz product. Nine gallons of water to one gallon of product.

Here's the label. Cutrine Plus Liquid label

You have filamentous algae, if it's not a solid mat of algae, I would go with 0.6 ppm dosage. If it's a solid mat go to the next higher dosage

To measure the pond, if it's a few years old, go here: http://acme.com/planimeter/

Measure the perimeter of the pond. You could also do it in google earth. If the pond has 400' of shoreline, and the algae is 5' wide around the edge, then you have 2,000 sq. ft. of algae to treat. That's .0459 of an acre.

If the water in that area goes from 0 to 4' deep, give it an average of 2' deep. That's .0918 of an acre foot of water.

Check my math, but I'm thinking 21 to 22 fl. oz. of Cutrine Plus Liquid, along with 9x that amount of water mixed in a sprayer and sprayed around the perimeter of the pond is what to use in that fictitious example that I just used.

I wouldn't spray more than 7,500 sq. ft. at one time if your pond is 1/2 acre.

Remember you have to figure out the amount of product to use to achieve the PPM dosage that you need. You could add 100 gallons of water to the spray tank and if you spray it over the same sq. ft. area, the PPM dosage won't change.
