Right befor that last cold spell the crappie were hitting jigs in shallow water along the banks, they were 7-8" long and looked Gravid. After the cool snap32- 35 degrees low temperatures the water went down to 58 or so on the bank in 6" water. Now that it's warm, mid 60s water temp I can't buy a bite anywhere in the pond.... Anyone know what the phenomenon is that's going on .... Did they spawn and move off to rest ?

I know we're in different climates, Pat but mine have been the same, very sporadic at best. Our weather and temps have been up and down too.
Saturday it was 70 degrees, no wind and couldn't buy a bite (anything!) then yesterday, also 70+, with winds gusting at 35+, off the bank I caught 5 BCP in 15 minutes and several BG off small Crappie Power Baits (white and yellow).
Don't know why exactly, but the Crappie bite usually comes on in strong winds!
Interestingly, I've started tossing out food with some takers over the past several days, but this morning they went nuts! 2 small coffee cans of AM LMB and 2 cans of AM 600. I know the HSB, LMB, BG and BCP were hitting it (it was 60 degrees at 7:15 this morning).

Thanks Keith, iguess they are fickle critters at best. Did you say the BCP were eating the fish food?

Yes, I've come to know (I think) how the different fish take (or attack) the pellets. HSB, violent BG, up for the food and down LMB, not quite as violent as the HSB but a noticeable difference BCP, always a tail splash after taking a pellet. Yep, I could be all wet on that, it's just my observation in my pond .

Crappie may have been spawning. Its time now for that. The ones I was catching before the last cold snap were Gravid. After they spawn do they go back to deep water to "rest"?

They usually start to eat at regular locations after the spawn.
