Hi, Sorry if this is a little off topic. My brother recently bought 2 boats with 2 different motors and is going to try to rebuild/salvage the lower end on the motors.
The first is a 1971 Mercury Tower of Power 1350. They made those for 71 and 72 only. They had a 1150 from 71 and 72 that was exact same just 115 hp vs 135 hp. They quit making the 1350 in 72. He needs a service manual to see how to take apart and rebuild the lower end.
1970 era 1150, or 1350, 1400, 1500 engines I think have similar lower units and the tear down and rebuild from a 60s or even maybe a 80s unit might be similar?
Looking to see if special tools are needed and if he can tackle this himself.
The second boat/motor he bought the other night has a 1150 from 78. The lower unit is shot, On mercury parts lookup the lower unit of the 73-79 115 is a different part number than the 1350 and 1150 from 71, and 72. But many guys on the forums have put lower units from 70s and 80s on older, or newer engines without trouble. As long as the drive shaft length and splines match?
Any service manual help you can point out is appreciated. If it is better to share info via PM to keep this out of the forum that is fine too.
Thanks in advance.

I once bought a service manual for motors that old. I expect they are still available.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I thought you needed some help with your funk..

I think the funk is ok, it's the Merc that needs help.
