DonoBBD, Not sure if there is something closer to you or not. But these folks advertise here and are good people. I haven't compared costs around the web though. StoneyCreek

Here at our Lowes store, they sell a green 1" square mesh used as deer fencing. I used it and some plastic latice to build a crib. The mesh would work for a trap.

I have purchased mesh from both aquaculture suppliers and at big box stores - the mesh from the former is high quality, but also costs significantly more. Lowes, Home Depot, Menards also sells plastic mesh rolls in 1/4", 1/2" up to 1", but only come in 3' width rolls. The 4' width rolls are convenient as I like 4' depth on my circular cages, using 3' rolls requires building a pvc frame in order to achieve 4' depth. Hope some of this helps.

For sampling of YP I prefer the 1/2" mesh. The 1/2" mesh will catch your smaller YP of 3.5"-4" plus 12" YP. The mesh can also be nylon seine netting. Large trap nets are built with seine netting on a frame. Shipping from US to Canada will be slow and costly.
Worst case when plastic mesh is not available, buy the galvanized hardware cloth 3 or 4 ft wide and make cylindrical or oval traps (cross section) with conical ends. Most of my traps are built with the hardware cloth (1/8" to 1/2"mesh). Walleye will enter my larger traps(3ft oval) with no bait and no lead. I usually have good catches without trap lead netting. Traps can be 2ft or 3 ft dia. Attach a handle on top of the cage. I use cheap door handles with juice can lids as washers on the bolts.
Some members have built box frames out of PVC and covered the frame with the netting that has conical or V trap openings. If you don't have a good flat pond bottom spot to set the box like trap, I prefer the cylinder or oval traps which sit and fish nicely on a steep sloped bank. Tie a rope to the handle to hold it in place parallel to shore. Report your catches here. All will be interested.

I will for sure Bill. I am looking at 6"s of good ice still and our annual golf trip to Florida march 4th to 11th.
I can get this galvanized 1/2"x1/2" much easier than anything. I think I will go that rout. I remember as a young boy building these for muskrat and catching the biggest grass pike I have ever seen in our small rivers. This was by accident but when we pulled the trap out onto the bank the fish went nuts. The trap was bouncing two feet off the ground. The door was not big enough to let the pike out because we were expecting rats. Had to cut the door bigger and never used that trap design again for rats.
Cheers Don.
