Yea, it makes it tough to know what you're getting when you want fish that are not grown commercially. Like you said, they come from the wild so you are throwing the dice. I got lucky with where I'm getting my RRs. It's a pet shop and they quarantine their feeder RRs, guppies and goldfish for 30 days before they will sell them to make sure their is not something hinky with the fish.

All bait fish in MI have to be tested for disease and VHS before they can be sold. The rolling of the dice is with all of the handling along the way. Back in the day, I would get them from the Native Americans that did the local wild caught thing and sold them to the bait shop. Meet them in the morning with a fresh catch. Those days are long gone. The suckers and golden shiners did well in the small tank for the short duration they were in. Some of the suckers were, well, sucking on the tank bottom before I moved them to the bigger tank. I think all they need now is some cheap booze, poker table, a few loose women, and maybe the smaller ones should be packing a side arm

I wonder what the mom and pop bait shops, that just hit the local creeks for a few minnows to sell, do for testing. Is the testing cheap there or are there just no mom and pop shops catching their own minnows in MI?

The VHS thing changed the rules as to how bait is dealt with.

Been messing with the oval tanks, and they work really nice! Everything you want out of the tank goes to the center pretty quick!
Gonna get a couple more.

Not for everyone, and you have to determine what will work for you.
That's about it.
