I wanted to report this sighting and after seeing several post reporting on hunting and such, I thought I would tell my story. I was walking back to the farmhouse after a bow hunt. I walked up on a cat at 15 yds. The cat was in a pounce position with his back to me. He never knew I was there. The cat was watching a squirrel 15 to 20 feet in front of him. I just stood there and watched. My first thought was this was a domestic cat gone wild or a feral cat. It was a dark grey in color and looked nothing like the Bob Cats in have on the property.(many trail came pictures of bob cats with their young on the property). I watched this cat run over and past the squirrel, killing it in a split second. And then it turned back toward the squirrel and me, and then it saw me. This grey cat had a wild cat face and had ears that were pointy. In doing the research, I learned these ears are called Martian Ears. I guessed the weight of the cat at or around 15 to 20 lbs and is based on the two family cats I have. After the cat saw me it took to the deep cover just a few feet away. I walked to the squirrel and saw two puncture marks in the neck. I let the dead squirrel lay whey I found it. I continued my walk back to the farm house. I have never seen this type of cat in E. Texas or N. La. In researching, I found where this type of cat is not known to be here in E. Texas. It's normal range is a long distance of many states from here. Another note is that my property is across the rd from a 9,000 acre national wildlife area along with a 27,000 acre Caddo lake. The largest Cypress tree forest in N. America. Sorry guys, no pictures of this cat or pictures of my pond fish smile Any thoughts or comments.
PS, I returned to the site of the killing within the hr and the dead squirrel was gone, so I am guessing the cat returned to his kill.

That is really cool to hear.

We had a bob cat around here and I can tell you if you have ever heard it at night you would think someone is being murdered with hands.

If I would have been sleeping in a tent and heard that I would not sleep all night.

Many years ago my sister was home alone on the farm and called the police and told them a woman was screaming down at the railroad tracks. Police came and walked down the tracks with flash lights to check things out. My sis was watching their flashlights from the house. They had probably walked a couple hundred yards when the "woman" screamed again. Sis said she could see the police running then with the flashlights bouncing up and down. They never found "the woman." I wonder now if it wasn't a bobcat even though we had never seen one around there.

Pretty much! I was tent camping with a psycho-b... I mean an old girlfriend on their property when one screeched may 20 feet from the tent from absolute silence. It definitely works on paralyzing prey, and us!

I've had one screech 20 yards from me while sitting in a treestand at 5 AM in pitch darkness....

....I'm glad it was dark so no one could see the wet spot...

Our mountain lion spotted 3 years back has been replaced with a bobcat. Much smaller paw tracks in the beach sand and water's edge. While I appreciate both felines, I'm much more relaxed with the bobcat than the mountain lion.

I was checking a food plot for buck tracks, looking for a buck to hunt, I came across 4 really big tracks and not sure what they were, I took a picture and then compared the track online and discovered it was from a large Mt. Lion. I carried my gun for several weeks after that, still makes me a little nervous when walking around unprepared for such things as "big cats".
