Hello,

I have a small 40,000 gallon pond stocked with some small catfish, bog plants, and water lilies. I have a growing problem with algae (not filamentous) and poor water clarity. I currently am aerating the pond with a single 8" diffuse membrane aerator powered by a Thomas compressor. Pond has fairly steep sloping sides to almost 6 foot depth in center.

I have considered a bio-filter but it would need to be large (1000-2000 gal) to be effective.
The other option is dumping beneficial bacteria into the pond. I am fine with that as I want to avoid algaecides as they may damage/kill things I don't want affected. There is a plethora of bacteria manufacturers to choose from. So which one gets the nod? For instance Kasco Marine has Macro-Zyme touting an extremely high bacteria count of over 3 billion CFU’s per gram of product. And they use no yeast as a filler. This is a higher than average concentration of goodies but does that mean it works more efficiently?
Anyone having experience with certain products that they are thrilled to have purchased I would love to hear your comments?
