Does anyone know of a smartphone app that can be used for measuring the acreage of a new pond? My pond is almost complete and I would like a reliable way to check how big it truly is.The pond was originally estimated via a satellite software program but the pond size ended up larger. We downloaded an app today that was not very accurate or user friendly.Looking for something like acme planimeter where we can walk the perimeter of the pond and plot points to find area.

Tubguy, AL (fireishot), turned me on to the above link to figure out the size of my pond. Works great....Good Luck!

Thanks for the info stickem always needing something like that. There are a lot of tools for the computer but not many that are designed to be used on the ground

Thanks to all for the quick response! We will give it a try. The app we tried yesterday was supposed to be designed for civil engineers but the accuracy was + or - 30 meters on GPS location???? Now have another great excuse for a walk around the pond.

You can try "Planimeter - GPS Area Measure" available for Android and iOS. It does measurements on maps using different methods including real-time GPS tracking. You have options to set threshold for GPS accuracy and time interval for dropping a point. Google Play Link App Store Link More infor about the app and demo videos

The wife and I just finished measuring the pond with the acme planimeter app for I-phone 5s.It worked awesome! The original estimate was 2.5 acres. The pond at full pool measured 3.1 acres today.looks like I will need to increase our fish stocking numbers.

Guys, Thanks for the tip! I just had my son download it to his I-phone 6 and he measured our living room. Pretty dang good! He is now tasked with measuring the pond when he gets home from school tomorrow! Only $8 for the App!!

Worked great! After recent rain, pond is at about "normal" summer level. Measured at .35 acre. I have always guesstimated at 1/4 so was nice to know. I suspect winter pool last winter was around 1/4 acre. I will now use this App to walk off the new expansion and be able to size it pretty close before the shovel hits the ground.
