The white/norfork have produced a world record brown trout and I was present when state biologists shocked up a 63# brown below the norfork dam, but that fish will unlikely ever leave such a food rich and fishing banned area...The little red river also in Arkansas also had a former WR BT.
I absolutely love fishing the confluence of the white and norfork....at one time, they said the rivers supported over 300# of wild trout per acre foot of water..

Dang, I've been there several times and that one somehow eluded me.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I fish Norfork every spring, absolutely LOVE it down there. I've talked to several of the locals about the fishing below the dam...apparently that area is considered Mecca for the locals...despite the regs preventing fishing there.

I might have hooked her once lol I have a 5th wheel trailer home I keep up on the White River. I've been going there since the early 80's. I took my father in law fishing one time where he hooked into something that took all his line before I could get the boat turned around to chase her down. Have had some great fishing days there, and as soon as the weather warms up a little I will be headed back to the White. Tracy

When I chased a dream of building a cabin off the land, I lived in Izard County near Lafferty Spring and would often catfish Norfork at night and trout fish below the dam during the day. Used to stay at Y Cabins...kind of a cool dump using small cabins built onto small travel trailers...lol Used to also stay at Rainbow just below the damn and used Rose's Trout dock to rent a boat. Once I met Cathy, we used to go there every February for at least a week. First time I took Cathy was funny because the guys at Rose's said...."This isn't the same woman you were here with last time....?!?!"

Back in the early 90's I spent a lot of time working throughout the Ozarks. I was just learning to fly fish and fished the White and Norfork a few times, but never did very well. Then a couple of us got a guide one day who took us out to fish the White below the dam. You were restricted from getting but so close to the dam with a boat, but he'd get us as close as we were allowed and then we'd just float and dead-drift these big streamers that were supposed to look like stunned baitfish that had come through the dam.
We each caught a few nice big football-shaped RBT and BT. One in particular ran with it and took all kinds of line off the reel. It just took off and kept going. Guide told me to let him know when my line got to the backing and he'd start up the boat, but before that happened my leader snapped. Haven't thought about that for a long time, that trip was a lot of fun.
