If you dye your pond, will the dye show up in a "spring" below the dam if the "spring" is really a leak in the dam? There were several springs in the creek bed where the pond was built, so would the dye let me know if it is a spring or a leak? Thanks for any help.

glenn, welcome aboard. i know that was bad. i am not sure if the dye would bind to the soil or not. sometimes in muddy water the dye will actually bind to the colloidial clay particles that are suspended in the water. you could always try it i dont think it would hurt anything. you could try weighting a packet dye close to where you assume the dam is leaking to keep the dye from spreading too far before it has the chance to leak out. good luck.

I think acriflavin would be the thing to use. We used it as a prophylactic for fish, but not any more. A little goes a long ways and it turns the water a "nuclear green."

Maybe someone else has used acriflavin or a similar product?

Mike: Could you tell us more about acriflavin? Why don't you use it now? Detrimental to fish? How long does the water stay nuclear green? Does it require a licensed applicator? Thanks! Jeff
