WOULD CHICKEN WIRE PROTECT TREES FROM BEAVERS OR DO YOU NEED A HEAVIER GUAGE WIRE?

A shotgun protects trees from beavers.

But seriously... chicken wire may protect trees or at the very least promt the beaver to move on to easier fare. However if the tree's in question are the only ones for a piece around... they may still find a way to get it down. I have seen beavers chew through thin guage steal strand. I would certainly give it a try though.

I don't pretend to know about Alabama but our place in Texas has had a few that sure could do damage pretty quickly. I didn't pay attention to them until they chewed down about 20 out of 30 new pecan trees we planted. That's when I brought out the rifle. We also had a government trapper from the county come from NRCS and they set traps and got rid of the problems at least for the moment. I'm sure some of these old pros can tell you exactly who you should call. Any help guys?

Yes it will protect your tree. Put it on tightly and put it up at least three feet up the tree. They will stand on their back legs and push it down if not. I caught three yesterday in snare traps. If possible trap or shoot or you will have a forest covered in chicken wire. Good luck!

I bought a pond in east texas, some of the trees were wrapped with chicken wire,and some had been downed or damaged,then they came back,i started franticly wrapping the prettiest trees.tried to get gov. assistance but they were so far behind i didn't want to wait,i located Don Baker {1-903-829-2392} in the canton,tx.area, he charged $50 to set up and $35 per beaver,been about a year ago. so far they have not returned, have shot gun but was not able to spot them.im sure at some time they will be back.Harvey

I've only been involved with beavers a couple of times. I've noticed that they are mostly nocturnal in North Texas but seem to come out just before dark. Hunt them at that time. In my neighborhood, they have done as much damage to dams as trees. One of my neighbors built a chicken wire fence for about 100 yards on each side of his pond. Of course, the beavers went around it. But, they had a long way to go to get back in the water when he showed up at night with his spotlight and shotgun.

Have not noticed beaver holes in the dam , but have a point juting into the pond with beaver holes in it ,maybe my c-cat will spawn in them ?
