I own a backhoe and am thinking about digging out a small duck/fish pond in my backyard approximately 30' by 50'. There is heavy clay down about 2' from the ground surface. I plan to dig to a depth of 7'. I really don't want to mess with a liner if I dont have to but I have my doubts about clay being enough to keep the water level consistent without much seepage. Anybody have any experience with heavy clay soil in this size of pond? Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

welcome to PB RMM. if you have a true clay dominant soil, you will need neither a liner nor a fancy sealing product. if you are unsure of how to identify what type soil you have, you should get a soil test done. there are several on this forum who could point you in the right direction for soil tests if we know where yer from.
