Yes, 25 feet in front of his dock. We were throwing out large game fish pellets feeding the wipers and the SMB were in the mix dukeing it out with the wipers for their fair share.
We were kind of cheating, by using the same pellet for bait as we were feeding the fish. So don't think of me as any master angler or anything. Kind of more like shooting fish in a barrel. But TJ wanted us to see one of his pride and joy fish up close, so what better or fun way of capturing one???
Using Aqua-Max game fish pellets that looked big enough to choke a horse. The wipers and SMB were gulping them down. I bet we fed a gallon or two and the fish were still hungry when we left.
Actually caught one a little bigger than in the picture but let it go at dock side without lifting it up out of the water for pics.
Carolynn had a wiper on also that got off the hook when it got close to the dock. TJ wanted her to feel first hand the power that they have, and she did. Drag definitely got a workout.
Fun, fun.

Who can photoshop some captions into this picture for TJ?:

I don't know. TJ's facial expression could indicate a lot of things...
"Why can't I catch fish like that at my own pond?"
"Dude shows up for a day and thinks he's King!"
"I was going to catch that fish until he showed up..."
Just kicking some ideas around..

Tremendous fish TJ, fantastic results from your pond program!
Looks like your reproductive strategy for dip nets is paying off also....getting some nice recruitment on those babies from the look of things.

it must be nice to actually catch something that you have been developing. I have yet to catch any thing in my pond. Well I did catch that those tarpon last year. But I am still disapointed with my ablity to catch any thing out of the pond.
Keep up the good work !

Hey the photos came out great - that's excellent! John has a nice 24" fish there, and I accidentally released another dockside that was around 26". Carolynn's SMB is around 16" and all fish were healthy. Fishing was ok despite the cold front which dropped temps in NE 20 degrees or more.
Really had a nice time meeting you both - you're welcome anytime. Glad you had the opportunity to catch your first of those species - it's awesome to be a part of that experience.
FYI Carolynn decided to try her hand at fly tying in their hotel room during their stay in NE and she made a gift to me of several. They look great and I'm impressed with her first efforts - she acted like it was no big deal! Can't wait to tie a few on this Fall and get some shots of fish from the flyrod.
