I have a smaller pond that is basically a timber pond, completely surrounded by overhanging trees, narrow, with steep sides, about 13-15 feet deep off the dam. It is 40 yards wide at the dam, and 300 yards long, narrowing to an inlet creek on the opposite end.
The water is normally very clear, and there is very little weed growth, I assume due to the trees and shade. Recently an area has popped up in the pond of an orange colored mass that looks a lot like an underwater cloud? Any ideas what this could be?
Also any suggestions on this type of pond would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post.
later, CS

Sounds like Bryozoans. They cause no problems to a pond.
