What would lay eggs on the bottom of the lily pads?
I still have some dirt floating around the pond when it rains heavy. The dirt then will build up on the top of the lily pads. Because this is our first year with them in their current depth I have been babying them. Yesterday I swam out to them and manually washed them off with my hands to let more sun light at them.
While doing this I noticed some lumps on the bottom of some of the big pads. Flipped them over and wow covered in eggs some with little black dots some with out.
Do the fatheads use these as well as the shore line wood and stones to spawn?
Cheers Don.

Snails can be a host to white and yellow grubs in the fish if fish eating birds (other host) visit the pond. If the snails are common pond snails that have easily crushed shells the YP will eat them. If you keep the birds mostly out of the pond you should not have much problem with fish grubs even with common snails.

The snails I have seen in the pond I have found in the perches belies when cleaning some. I have seen these same snails in the creek next to our pond too.

If you keep the birds mostly out of the pond Good luck with that one. Those birds get up earlier than I do, and visit after I go in for the evening. And I bet even show up uninvited when I'm not around. Stock a pond with delicious fish, and suddenly the birds think it is smörgåsbord time. Voice of experience talking. I run them off, but they keep accomin.

Sooooo did some looking and reading on these eggs. The clear kind of yellow eggs are some type of snail. The clear with black dot eggs are different. Not sure what they could be but fathead eggs maybe. All eggs are laid flat side by side not in a clump or glob systematic side by side by side.
The yellowish eggs are bigger than the clear dark spot eggs.
Cheers Don.

Could you put a leaf that has eggs on it in a goldfish bowl and see what hatches out? Inquiring minds want to know!!!!

Placing a leaf with eggs in a container with water will be good way to see what hatches out of the eggs. Note that newly hatched snails are pretty small.
