While I have read through the below posts about muddy water, I did not come across any brand new ponds with a solution like my pond. I had a brand new pond dug a few weeks ago, it filled very quickly from an underground spring and rain but the water is red clay muddy. I know the cause is the fresh mud/clay and the settling of the sides of the pond but is there a way for me to clear up the water easily without having to wait months for it to do it on its own? The pond is about 120 feet long, 15 feet wide, and about 6 feet deep.

If you haven't planted grass on the exposed sides of the pond, do so ASAP. Until the fresh dirt is covered, any precipitation will wash more mud into the pond. Mulching over the seed with straw or hay will help speed up grass growth and should cut down a little on mud from runoff all by itself.

I agree with Theo. You can probably use gypsum to clear it but it won't stay clear until you can control the runoff.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Well, I planted grass around my pond, have watched that there is very little if any wind blowing across my pond and yet my water is still muddy.
I placed some pond water in a bucket and within 2 days, it was clear for the most part. I have a clay mud on the pond. How can I make the pond settle? It has been raining over the last few months so that hasnt helped.

Be patient. Our pond of 3 years now was very muddy for about 3 months. If your water clears in a bucket it will clear in the pond too. I agree with the above posts. Focus on getting the shoreline well established with a good strong grass area. That is key to the pond clearing.
Check my home page to see photos of my pond. It is highlighted on the Catskill Pond web site:
