Beautiful fish. But Bruce, that's not a bluegill. That is a discoid shark with blue tabs. Your crank works much better than my buzz:

Bruce, I think that's my favorite small crankbait. Rebel Wee-R in crawdad.
Believe it or not, I had a LMB break one in half on me. I still have the front half in my tackle box.
Beautiful fish!!

I was doing some research for the "mouth gape" thread, and here's a couple test subjects from today. Thanks to Stacy and Steve - Stubby Steves. I didn't have any more #10 Owner Mosquito Hooks, so I had to break out the #10 Red Eagle Claw Lazer egg hook. By the time the sun went down all the red was gone and the gold plating was left. Males were still milting, but no females caught had eggs. Here's one of the SMB.

I'd never forget my bluegill sized cranks...
"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"
If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1) And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1) Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT? PB answer: It depends.

Is that a female Bruce? Ear tab looks a little short but everything else points at male.. I think it's a really pale male. I'm about 95 percent certain. For some reason the really long winter seemed to have left the fish a little washed out in color. Weird.

I love the Rebel Crickhopper... It's great for just twitching on the surface or you can crank it in like a normal crank bait. On 2 pound test it has amazing action. The Rebel Wee R Crawfish with the bigger deep diving lip is an amazing bait as well. I love it for big brown trout in rivers. Because it has a little rattle in it, it's deadly after dark. Bang it just off the rocks on the bottom in deeper pools and hold on!

Bruce, I just love those ultralight crank baits but I have a hard time disengaging the hooks on those small trebles. It makes me handle the 'gills too much and damages their mouths too many times for catch and release. I am thinking about replacing them with a single hook or bendin two of the hooks down on a treble. Especially on the tail hook. I can't stand to injure a prime breeding CNBG! Tom Sterling
