FA is normal for 1/4 acre pond for this time of year - hasn't flushed for a couple or so drought years.
Todd will make the call on tilapia delivery.

Finally have ice out on my pond, as of yesterday afternoon. So excited, I was wondering if there was a fisherman's anonymous group I could join somewhere. Tomorrow afternoon will be the day for me to feed my addiction. May be too windy for the fly rod, but I will hit the water with some kind of string and stick! Yippee!

Thanks George. It's hard to fly fish thru a 6" hole in the ice. wink

It also was bugging me that I could't add anything to your annual fishing thread!

Hitting that 6" hole in the ice with a fly is what I call precision laugh presentation!

Pretty good male YP there Scott - how old to you think he is?

I thought so too. Male YP, maybe the food chain base is still light? Pond is down 4' so everything that was once in shallow water is now above the ice.....

TJ, I'm going with 2 or 3. Cecil should have a better idea. They came from him.

SMB looks like good condition too, and the RBT are striking! Wonder if they are different sex - the bottom one looks more speckled

Top was male, bottom female. I thought the SMB looked a bit skinny too.

Gage and I set out to target a few northern BG females for a science project tonight, and wouldn't you know it, he stuck this beast on an ultralight after just a few minutes. After last year's HSB fiasco we are dead set on reducing the biomass in this pond, so we had to call it a night and head to the fillet table.

I'm not a fan of eating large catfish, and would've probably just tossed the fish, but he was proud of it.....so there you go.

24", seven pounds, and VERY gravid....wasn't expecting that at all.

And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Coming out of Winter I think that SMB is looking solid. Give him 4 weeks chasing pellets and he'll be back where you need him. Good fish.

Not yet. Going to soak the fillets in 7-Up for a few hours to try and mellow things out. I'm just not a fan of trying to eat bigger catfish, but he's looking forward to it. I'll soak it, trim it, and do my best to make it palatable.

I don't drink it myself Sunil, but soaking the fillets in it can work wonders on strong, or "muddy" tasting fish. It will turn red or brown streaks, or veins, almost pure white.

I've heard of that recipe...sounds tried and true been around a long while. Trim off all excess fat and consider a thick beer batter and hot peanut oil! Makes even shoe leather taste good.
