i'm in south louisiana and i have a 4 1/2 acre pond that is about 3 yrs. old.we put the bass in the pond approx. 2 1/2 yrs.ago.my question is when do you take bass out of the pond?i put 400 bass in pond and they should have spawned 2 times by now.the largest bass caught so far is about 16 inches long and 2 1/2 pounds.the average bass are about 12-13 inches long.but we do not catch very many bass,on the average if you fish 2 hours you will catch about 4-5 bass.we do however have plenty of bream, you can catch them just about anytime.i'm not sure what to do since the bass fishing does not appear to be that good, should i let then spawn a couple more times??

Lee, I'm not a LMB/BG guy but I think you need to give more info such as: what SIZE bg do you see in the pond? Are there all sizes say, 1" , 3", 4"? If so your bass may be very happy & not hungery enough to go after your offerings though I would have expected more growth. If you have only say 5"-7" bg then the bg are stunted but are too large for your 16" bass to eat? Give as much info as you can and I'm sure someone with expertese will respond. Ric

LEE, Like Ric said what is the average size of the bluegill? ALso run some relative weights on your bass. Here is a link and description http://www.lakework.com/articles.html. Look at the last article and report back on the average of your bass. This will help guide you bass harvest decisions.

thanks for writing,i have all different size bream and alot of them.yesterday i fished for 1 hour and caught 1 bass that was 15 1/2 inches long and very fat,as all bass seem to be.back to the bream i've been feeding them with a feeder i bought from greg last month.prior to that i hand feed once a day.i would not think i should have to many bream yet.they have only been in the lake about 2-2 1/2 years.the average bass we catch is 12-13 inches, all though i have caught a few 16 inches long,so i'm assuming the 12 -13 bass are not the original bass put in lake.i have seen a few 5-6 inch bass over the last year.in closing,i'm trying to get greg grimes to come to baton rouge and shock pond this coming spring.
