there is about 100 ft of shoreline that is on the watershed that feeds the pond. This area has collected some silt since the pond was built in 2005. I was considering getting some sheet piling put down along the shoreline to stop the entry of the silt. Is it possible that the installation of the sheet piling could cause a leak through the clay (assuming there is a layer of clay) or would the clay "seal" around the piling?

Also, assuming this seems like a good idea... Does anyone have an estimate on the cost to install sheet pile?

Thanks,

The clay should seal around it. What will you do if the runoff water is more than the sheetpiling can hold back? I'm assuming that they will use a pneumatic hammer to install it?

As for cost, I haven't a clue. Dad and I installed something like that at the lake house in the late '70's. It's somewhere between 1/4" and 3/8" thick. We installed it using a garden hose and a piece of copper pipe. We washed it down, stopping about 6"-12" above where we wanted the level to be and used sledgehammers to pound it down.

IIRC the pieces are about 6'-8' long. We capped it with 3"x3" or 4"x4" 3/16" or 1/4" thick angle.

Stainless ladder.

Scott,
That is a nice bulkhead. I wouldn't "assume" mine would be so nice...

I'm generally trying to stop the silt runoff but not the water. Perhaps that isn't possible and the silt will still find it's way into the pond???

Thanks, it was a lot of work. We wheelbarrow'd about 18" of topsoil from the road down to the shoreline to bring the level up to the top of the seawall - about 150'. Luckily its downhill. We cut them to length with an abrasive blade on a circular saw. Didn't think about using a torch.....

Have you looked into the silt fence that contractors use?

not really. Part of the real reason to use the sheetpile is to surround the weir (sp? wier?) so we could enlarge it and slow down the it's shrinkage.
