Woot woot google has updated their maps. Funny thing is they will not have our new house in it that we start in the spring.

Few pictures of our pond and some details on it. When filling the pond from the small ditch you can see that passes beside the pond the calculation on filling was 890,000 gallons of water to full pool. The road side is a good 16 feet deep and the house side is 14 feet deep and 12 right off the end of the dock.

You can see I have a underground water line 2" coming from the creek that feeds water on a float system to the water fall. The underground line you see to the road side is our over flow back to the creek. This "creek" is really a field drain that because of the grade could not be a underground closed drain tile. So I have a small dam in it and two sump pumps to maintain my ponds full pool. I can pump my pond down to this drain if I need and if this is done in the spring or late summer I can refill the pond from the creek in a week.

So the pond is nothing but perch. We did stock a hybrid pumpkin seed/ red ear sunfish but they all did not survive the truck ride and transfer. After learning this was a lucky gift to my perch pond. It well fertilized the pond and did not complicate things for later for my ponds fish species.

There is a water fall on the north side of the pond and a shallow ridge in the middle of the pond. This was built for spawning for plants and lilypads. If you look close you can see our lilys out there. As recommended these are a slow growing lily. There is a stick bed for the perch to spawn in between the lilys and the shore to the road side of the waterfall. The dock is 16X16 with a 4X16 gangway out to the dock. You can see the two air stations placed as indicated by the great people of the pond boss site. This runs 24~7 with the on on the road side shut off for the winter and the one near the dock to run all winter. This may change. Not sure if I am doing this right for maximum pond carrying capacity.

We planted all the trees after the build and would recommend if one builds up the banks of a pond as much as I did to plant the trees a year or two after the banks have packed and settled in.

Few pictures enjoy.

Cheers Don.

Here is the grade plan for the new house. I didn't notice that this old farm house was so crooked to the driveway. The grade plan guy noticed this.

Few more pictures.

Cheers Don.

Hmm, I like the subliminal "shapeliness" of your pond in GMaps3. ;-) Nice place!

Your pond has a very good beginning. Keep up the good efforts. It will continue to get better.

Wow! What a great looking place.

I sent the URL of the picture of the dock cover to my wife to look at. Our floating portion of our dock is about the same size and have been thinking some sort of sun cover would be nice. The one you have looks great.

That is one deep pond! But I guess in your neck of the woods the ponds probably have to be deep to keep from getting fish kills with the winters you have.

Thanks everyone and I plan on working very hard at this pond as it is the only hobby I am not to old for now. Retired from Paintball and just do it off and on with the kids team now.

Yes she will be cold tonight -30C with wind chill. We have 6"s of good ice now I bet by morning we will have 12. No snow on the ice so the cold gets down fast.

Cheers Don.
