Would someone please explain how they build pallet pyramids? I have seen the photos but can't figure how they are tied together or how they are placed in the water.

I tied the corners with nylon rope. Also tied a cinder block on all four bottom corners to hold it down. I actually tied each bottom corner and a blocks together then tied each of the top two corners together.

Hint, it does not take much weight to sink them but the wood has to become waterlogged, tie a string and brick to it where to want it and give it about a week to sink. Lesson from Bob Lusk BTW I did squares not triangles and used wood screws.

Friend one side me on the other, not all that heavy. Drug into the water. Once in the water the wood had enough buoyancy to remove most the weight. I probably would sink with three blocks but I wanted to make sure it was level on the bottom. I used a rope and snorkeling gear to position it out kinda deep.
You could use two blocks and float/position it over your location and then place the last one inside to sink it or tie to a boat or other floating sytem to position it then release it to sink.
every year I cut down two small ever green trees and tis a block to the middle and lean over it one on each side, sorta like a tepee

Thanks Bobby, good photo and job. I was worried about placement but the buoyancy aspect of the wood is a great answer. I especiallylike the yearly addition of evergreen brush to the teepe. Tom Sterling

How about the use of pallets for FHM spawning? How does that work? How deep? Etc.

I think that all depends, I think FHM will spawn in deeper water when predators are not abundant, When they are they tend to move in into shallow water...Im not an expert on FHM thats for sure..

I screw/nail them together and used cable ties and or trot line cord. They are hard to sink (not sure 4 blocks will work. If you set them in shallow water for a month then drag them out for final placement it is easier.

If you set them in shallow water for a month then drag them out for final placement it is easier. 4 blocks sank this one with ease, the wood was dry as a bone. If you used 4 pallets that might be differant, But 4 blocks sank three pallets no problem. I placed three of them that day.... the key for me was they still were easy to move in the water because of the dry wood but would sink when realeased. Now they have been under water couple years i might need a crane to move them unless I cut the blocks free.

Thanks Bobby, I plan to use the 3pallet pyramid that you used. Incidentally, what would you think about putting the pyramid on its side in shallower water with a 4th pallet on the top as a cover?. That seems like it would make a real hideout for smaller fish

seems like a FHM condo to me.. if it does not sink with 4 pallets you could place one block righ on top...
Note: have most the weight the side that you want on the bottom or it will want to roll on you.
I tried once to place block on top and it just rolled over on me.

Yes they will roll on you. Lots of ways to do pallets - imagination works well with pallet structures. I have even screwed then to poles and driven the pole in the pond bottom. You can also take out the middle board and place them over the pole and let them waterlog and sink on their own.
