Our lake has scattered logs in shallow water that range from small 3 foot logs, to logs 16 feet long and 18 inches wide. Most of them are just resting on the bottom of the lake in 1-5 foot of water.

I never see any fish near these sunken logs. Should these sunken logs be piled together to build better cover and if so, in what type of pattern?

We also have some floating logs and some that still have only one end floating.

I never have seen any fish near these floating logs either(plenty of turtles on them) and the majority of them are just washed up perpendicular against the bank. Should I move these floating logs away from the bank and sink them with bricks?

I'd pile them, but not all in the same direction... Go with a tic-tac-toe or a teepee design. Give the fish room to move around inside & outside the structure.

Foodeefish, I hate to say this because I love fishing sunken timber as much as anybody, but I'd be very careful of the logs in a pond. If you can move a sunken log in the water by hand, then it has an almost neutral buoyancy and may create spillway blockage problems with heavy rains.

I have taken 50# sacks of concrete, and just laid them on top of logs to keep them in place, but I'm not sure that would work for you. Besides, we don't have heavy rains anymore.

Look into the archives in regards to habitat and structure. In some of those threads it talks about the best placement for maximum benefit. There is a lot to consider and know, like what fish type, what type of structure, depths, time of year you want to fish the area, etc.
