Is that her birthday rod?

Yep, that's her birthday TFO BVK 6wt fly rod - quite a beauty! She got to take the plastic wrapper off the handle after catching a fish - in fact several fish!

Of course she out-fished me - AGAIN! cry
I tried to get her to cull that bass but wouldn't kill one of her babies - she's just like Robbie - they love their pets!

84.7 down from ~87 two weeks ago.
I normally stop fishing at 80+ but needed to check condition of fish.

Surface aeration is seldom mentioned on the forum but I believe essential for avoiding fish kills during record breaking drought and heat.
We currently run bottom diffuser system (I no longer call them aeration systems)during daylight hours and surface aeration during night hours.

IMO had I previously known about surface aeration, I could have avoided a major fish kill a couple of years ago.

84-85 won't hurt LMB and BG if they are handled correctly and not otherwise stressed. Good O2 levels and properly and quickly handling them is key. HSB need George's setup and don't handle the heat stress as well as LMB and BG. HSB do handle cold water stress much better.

Well done George and Mrs. G - nice looking fish. Glad you bent your rules a tad and got out casting.

So...what was/were the pattern/s that were most deadly?

The "pattern" was to devise a plan to cope with no wind. near full moon and spooky fish.

The occasion was for Mrs. G to test her new birthday fly rod.
Day break was calm and still but managed to catch a few nice CNBG - mostly males to about 8 inchs - since near full moon we speculated the big males had chased the smaller males off the beds and were guarding their "harem". CNBG caught on Stubbys.

I caught a couple of "cull" Florida LMB on a big Gurgler.

Went to small pond and the fish didn't want to play either so returned to main pond. I had turned off surface aerator so plugged it back up - you can't imagine the change in the calm water - big ripples clear to 2 acres of shore line - talk about circulation!

Turned the fish on big time - caught CNBG on every cast and couple of nice HSB and Mrs.G's nice Florida LMB on Stubbys.
All on fly tackle - strictly a fly fishing pond. grin
Thanks for asking,
George

Stocked these 10-01-12 at 6-8", caught this one this morning at 15" and I'm guessing at 1.5 lbs as I didn't have my scale with me but they were 1 lb 4 oz at 13".

Pond is healthy, fish appear healthy and growing well.

Once again, thanks to the PBF for helping me turn this BOW around to get it where it is today.

What a great way to start the day!!!

Thanks, Al!

Considering my backwards stocking program last year (predator before forage) I'm pretty darned stoked!

Really nice Nate - been missing 'ya - love your fish pictures!
You must be setting records for your Hybrid Stripers - you are setting the bar pretty high.
Give us some HSB length and weights to shoot for.
'Ya done good!

We need Cheyenne and James to get on the ball and get their HSB photos posted for old time sake - fun stuff!

James and Nate, those are all brutes. Congrats to both of y'all.

James, I may need to put LB Lodge on my bucket list.

n8ly's pics look like they're from two different ponds.

Sort of a potpourri of potent potables....

Up early this morning ready to meet Al and head to Brian’s place for some fishing and seining when I got an urgent message that Al was grounded in Detroit – yeah Michigan not Deroit Texas – no airport there….

Since Al and I were all ready to hit the road we decided to make a quick trip to check both his and our ponds – so off we went in dark of night.
First stop at Al’s to check his brood pond – great shape and full of 5+ inch CNBG.
lake needs water bad!

Next stop to check our little pond – threw out some feed and feeding frenzy and Al caught a nice Hybrid Striper.
Neds water bad!

Next stop, our main pond – caught several nice CNBG but not size and numbers expected – Al did catch his first Grass Carp on the fly rod.
Needs water bad!

Great day – great fellowship topped off with a mojo Burger and fries at a favorite country café.

Thanks Al for being the designator driver – missed you Brian - we will connect on your project soon.
George

Nice fish guys!....awesome dynamics on that Coppernose, too.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Nice fish as always George!

My question is,
What the heck was Al doing in Detroit? That place creeps me out!

Saw on the news recently that the former Mayor of Detroit was pleading (seriously begging) the Judge for a "very light" sentence of 25 years!

I think they should scoot him off to Texas for his annual Flu Shot! wink

Back to fish!

Thanks guys, I am blessed with friends like Al and Brian that allow me to tag along and have fun with their ponds/lakes.
Ponds really in remarkable good shape in our N.E. Texas area in spite of record breaking summer heat wave. We were lucky going into summer with near full ponds in out case.

JKB, I am probably wrong about Detroit - Al is all over the country flying that big airplane, I can't keep up with him.. grin

George was with Allen(Santa) all day, I was stuck in Detroit, turns out the aux pitot heater is a grounding item. And if the MSC goes out, it take the Aux Pitot Heater with it...

I missed most of a great day here in Texas, but now that I am back, we will rescheduled our outing, the good news is I got my black poly drip tube today!!
