Has anyone had to deal with an algae called Colonial Diatoms?
I identified this algae by using the book called "Water Weeds and Algae".
I really need some help!

I have some in my pond...I too would like to find a solution too. I have tried Clear Gate last year...killed most minnows and a lot of blue gill..used on the low end of the application...treated 1/2 pond. It did cut down the diatoms. Won't do that again. I have them back. Cutrine works great on other algee, not this. Please let me know if you or anyone else has any ideas...use pond for swimming, and when these diatoms break off the bottom and float to the top, very un-apealing.

How sure are you guys that these are colonial diatoms and not colonial desmids or another type of fialmentous algae? Are the diatoms growing in chains (ribbons), flattened masses or are they stalked? Did anyone give you a genus name or do you have samples?
