I purchased some GSH this spring from andersonminnows. I have been feeding them in my pond and they are 4 to 5 inches long i was wondering if they would spawn this fall?

They are large enough to be mature. You could see a spawn or two this summer. """ Spawning season for the golden shiner begins in late spring when water temperatures reach 70 F. In many Midwestern areas they will spawn from May to August. Spawning takes place in shallow water over some type of rooted aquatic vegetation or filamentous algae. The eggs are adhesive and stick to the vegetation. There is no nesting or parental care of the eggs or hatchlings."""

Can a person have too many GSH in a pond before stocking with bass?

If a LMB can go to sleep with it's mouth open and wake up with a full belly, you have just enough GSH in the pond. wink

Now, if they are all 8"-10" and you are stocking 3" LMB, then I'd make sure that you have a pond full of FHM too.

How would the GSH do in a turbid pond, and could one sink trees both real and artificial to get them to spawn?

I think they need grasses and vegetation, not brush.

GSH won't do their best in a turbid pond but they can tolerate it. If the pond has FA or has any kind of aquatic vegetation, they should spawn just fine.

Not sure this pond has much of anything in it. I do not see FA on turbid ponds that often.

It there anything I could or should add to the pond to help them out?

How many should I put in and should they be spread out through the pond or kept in a close area together?

Old shag carpet or similar along shore also works, but who has shag carpet?

Just let the carpeting float along the shoreline? Should be lots of places to get cheap pieces of old carpet--Salvation Army stores, Habitat for Humanity, etc.

How about netwrap from round hay bales? There could be a risk of other wildlife tangling in it, but if done right it should be safe and it's quite filamentous.
