I would like an opinion on the two water quality reports on my 13-15 acre lake taken in 2011 and 2012. I am having a problem growing Trophy Bass. Fish over 18-22 inches are under weigh by at least 2 lbs. I run 3 feeders and have many bluegill and red ear perch at feed time. The lake is almost 9 years old. I am starting this month to keep Seccih readings. Currently my water is very clear, over 3 feet down.
What changed from 2011 to 2012 to change the alkalinity/hardness/pH?
Just the larger LMB are underweight. Do you have enough forage fish in the 5"-7" size range for them to eat in comparison to the amount of forage that is under 5"?
How much of the lake is covered in aquatic vegetation (in relationship to the surface area)?
We have always had a lot of Bryozoans which is suppose to be indicative of good water quality. In 2011 we had an incident where most of the fish we caught had slim on them and redness by their anal. This lasted about ten days. During the time we could not find any Bryozoans. When the problem cleared up the Bryozoans came back. In 2011 and 12 we experience extreme drought conditions. Lake was 3-3 1/2 feed down. Yes only the LMB over 18". All other LMB are either on target or above target as to relative weight. Plenty of forage fish, particularly bluegill. Run 3 feeders. Aquatic vegetation covers approximate 25-30%. Our Aquatic vegetation is Muskgrass and Coontail. This year the drought is over, lake full and fish are doing much better except for LGM over 18". Plan to get another water quality test from Texas A&M.
