Hi guys, been reading and soaking in all the information available on here over the past several months and just decided to create an account and get some feedback on my situation. I bought my place last winter and this spring and summer have had a huge growth of weeds in my 1/2 acre pond. Last winter when we purchased the place there was next to no weeds to be seen especially above the water. Now that everything's dry out and the ponds water level has dropped off it has exposed a huge infestation of these weeds. I purchased some diquat herbicide and applied it to a small area a few days ago (the brown areas in the photos are where it was applied) and it seems to be doing ok. After I get the bulk of these weeds knocked out I planned on adding some grass carp to help control it for the long term. Just wanting to make sure I'm attacking this the right way and not spinning my wheels, looking to turn it into a nice little fishing pond that you don't have to worry about getting hung up every time you cast out. Thanks ahead of time!

Last winter:

And what I'm dealing with now:

Looks like Smartweed to me. It usually pops up when the water recedes in the summer. I doubt Grass Carp will control it.

Thanks for the quick reply! I had wondered if it was smartweed after reading about it on some of the plant id sites but wasn't certain. If the grass carp will not control it is the diquat going to be enough or do I need to look into some other herbicide or removal method?
