Does anyone have experience controlling wild rice (Zizania aquatica or palustris) with glyphosate? If so, how much Eagre, Rodeo or whatever do you mix per gallon of water & how much surfactant? Is another product better than glyphosate products?

I can't believe that someone actually wants to kill it, but they do! Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Is the guy with too much wild rice interested in selling young plants this spring?

I don't think so, unless someone wants to come and clear the plants out for him, then he'd probably give it to you.

The rice has spread over all of his duck hunting water and he wants to clear out several acres.

Mike, I would put rice under the category of annual grasses like rye, barley, and oats. It says to use 3-4 oz in 10-40 gallons of mix per acre with about 1 quart of surfactant. Need an applicator? Should work good from a boat.

Robert, thanks for the info...that's kind of what I guessed. I'm not sure if he wants to do it himself or hire out, but I recommended that he calls Aquatic Biologists, Inc. Which one of you guys handles the Portage, Wisconsin area?

Also, I spoke with a local applicator who thought 2 gallons of reward and 1 gallon of cutrine plus per surface acre sprayed on after the seeds set would take it out. I'm sure it would take it out, but do you think it would come back the following year with this method?

Mike, the Diquat in Reward is a contact herbicide if I'm correct. It may work on grasses since they don't store energy in their roots, but I'm guessing that it would be quite a bit more per acre than the glyphosate. It would also smoke his aquatics. The guy in that area is Chad Cason (920) 361-4088. He's a good guy and may know of someone who would want some of it. Does the customer have a fish hatchery type 1? Also do you have pumpkinseed or redear? I have a client with snails in a large gravel pit. Maybe CuSo4? Any other ideas?

Robert, I don't raise redear because they won't survive the winter in my ponds, however, I can get 1-2" for the same price as bluegill & hybrid bluegill, but they are not certified for wisconsin. I've had a lot of requests for pumpkinseeds and will have to try raising them when I get a chance.

For the snails, if the pond is in Illinois, stock redear. If its in Wisconsin spray the bank with copper sulfate.
