Is it too early to start controlling weeds in my pond? I'm in Central Texas and one of the culprits is water primrose.

If it is turning green and temps are above 60 go for it. I use a combo of glyphosate and 2,4d liquid to control water primrose but it takes several applications. It is one of the tougher plants to eradicate.

I have been able to eliminate water primrose in the past by fertilizing. If the plants establish during low water levels in the summer, and the lake fills in the spring, this is an effective technique. They aren't tolerant of shading.

Hello Bill. It might be a bit early (especially with today's winter blast) to go after primrose. Glyphosate is fair, especially with 2,4-D. But, you'll need a TDA license to purchase 2,4-D in Texas (legally). SePRO just received EPA registration for RENOVATE, which works much like 2,4-D but with a higher degree of activity - and it isn't state-limited use in Texas. It works pretty well on primrose, but may require 2 applications - as do the alternative treatments. Wait until mid to late March, and use a good surfactant with whatever herbicide you decide upon. Thanks gentlemen. I still have some left over from last year that I used. Will wait at least a couple of weeks anyway. Must have been a straggler I didn't see last fall. KD, it is cold here in the Brazos Valley tonight.

Good idea, Harvey. But, grass carp can't eat primrose. Kelly is right on.
