I have a nice pond but all around the perimeter, there is a ton of Slender Spikerush and Eurasian Water Milfoil. It is growing where bass and other fish would want to spawn, and I think this is inhibiting the reproduction of bass. Not too mention it's pretty ugly. I have priced out trying to control the invasive weeds with chemicals and it's pretty pricey with no guarantee. I have already put Triploid Carp in with no success.
Has anyone ever used a pond liner and put in the area near the shoreline (say from depths of 0 to 4 feet deep) to control unwanted weed/grasses? My thought was to put the pond liner down and then cover it with an inch or 2 of sand using a front end loader. An analogy might be when you put down a weed barrier in a flower bed.
Thanks in advance. Been reading Pond Boss for 3 years now.

I think you'd end up with the plants growing in the shallow layer of soil on top of the liner.

You only need 5-7 ppb of fluridone to control Milfoil. It's sensitive to it, and a little goes a long ways.

How many GC per acre did you stock, and how long have they been in the pond?

I had 18 GC in my one acre pond and they took my Eurasian milfoil out completely but it took about three years as I remember. However I remember Zetts of PA saying he saw GC scooping up bass fry and so he got rid of his grass carp.

jeeper, it's been brought to my attention that you may need a higher concentration of Fluridone for the milfoil due to higher temps degrading it faster and reducing the contact time. So, please bear that in mind when figuring out the dosage for Sonar A.S.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I put 50 Grass Carp in my 10 acre pond 2 years ago. So maybe they will make an impact soon. I'll give the Fluridone a shot around my dam and go from there!

jeeper, you can't get an effective dose by spot treating with fluridone. It has to stay at a certain PPB in the water for a relatively long contact time, and it tends to dissipate too much if used as a spot treatment. For spot treating, you are better off using a contact or systemic herbicide like Renovate, Reward or Navigate.
