Fellow Anglers-

I built my bass lake about 5 years ago including a brood pond. Brood pond doesn't stay full so after talking with Yoda ( Bob Lusk) today I need to install a pump. Please give me your thoughts and more importantly pictures of how you have installed them. Many thanks.

Welcome, I would assume that the brood pond is above your lake. If so, and depending on the amount of water you need to pump, you might be able to use a solar pump. We really do need a little more info: size of brood pond, proximity of lake to pond, do you have electricity available, etc...

Just do it...

Shooter7, I'm assuming that you are talking about a well pump or a pump like rmedgar is talking about.

I agree, a bit more info is needed. Also, is there electric near the pond? If you want to dig a well, what's the subsurface water like? (availability and quality)

If you have your may/June 2010 pond boss mag, look at page 55- there is an aerial of my lake. The picture is a bit misleading because the lake had not filled back up but you can obviously see the brood pond. Brood pond is slightly above my lake but not significant, few feet. Within 10 feet, basically part of the lake. Electricity will be pulled to appropriate spot an I plan on building a somewhat "invisible" pump so not to look bad for the bass....

Bob said send a post and the Pond Bosses shall speak! Many thanks.

I'll look up the magazine, but it'll take a couple of days. I'm running pretty hard right now getting all the Tilapia delivered for our clients. This is the first week of warm weather without chance of cold weather/frost in the future and we're about 3-4 weeks behind in getting the Tilapia in the ponds.

There's lot of other guys with good ideas/suggestions here. I'm sure you'll have it all figured out before I chime back in here! I was supposed to call Bob today and didn't have the time. (Sorry Bob!)

Submersible Lake Pump? Basically these are a submersible well pump with an outer sleeve and intake filter. You could bury your piping to the brood pond.

When you say not to look bad for the bass, do you mean you do not want the bass to see it, or people?

If you want it totally invisible to fish and people, you could excavate an area and build a sand filter. Drop a casing down with filter and install a submersible well pump. Everything can be underground, and the water coming from the pump would be really clean.

What is your available electric?

S7, how big is the brood pond? How big is the "lake"? Will you be pumping from the bigger water?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

S7, I was wondering the same things as Dave. Also, why did you rule out a semi-trash pump for the refillings? 5 gallons of gas kept my brood pond at pool all last year.

I was joking about not wanting the fish to see the pump! But would prefer not to have an eye sore.

The lake is 20 acres, brood pond probably 40'x100'?

I will be pumping from big lake.

Like FiH said, you could fill that pond in a day with a trash pump. That's what i would do.

How often would you have to top off the brood pond? Would it be daily, weekly, monthly...?

Do you want to manually fill the pond? Like filling gas tanks, pulling starters, flipping switches and all that kind of stuff... or have it totally automatic?

Do you think this should be energy efficient in any way?

Any other info you want from your lake or pond?

Eyesore was mentioned.

How much money in the budget?
Budget will probably dictate what you can do.

So nobody get's confused, the sand filter I mentioned would be a gravity bed sand filter that would be submerged in or near the lake.

Start at the top and work your way down.
