I have a problem around the edge of the pond, 1/2 acre in SE Michigan, with a plant that I have been unable to identify. I don't know what it looks like during the growing season cause I wasn't paYing attention, but it produces a Burr that gets stuck in the dogs fur in the fall. It is quite prolific and I would like to find out what it is so that I may remove it during the summer so the Burrs aren't there in the fall (well at least not as many as I have now) the Burr looks like this Fozzys Photos (its the last picture and kinda looks like a Star Fleet Enterprise Insignia) and is about 1/8" to 1/4" long and flat. thanks in advance.

I've seen that kind of "bur" here too. Don't know what it is but would take a sample to the local cooperative extention office. I'm sure they could identify it for you and offer some remidiation.

Fozzy - that burr is called a "beggartick." The genus name for the plant is Bidens, but there are quite a few species. I'm not very strong on plants, so identifying the species would take a little more work.

Hope that helps.

Dave

Thanks Dave, yes it does. Now I can find it online and try and pull as much of it out as possible before it seeds.
