Curious as if the Choctaw bass would interbreed with a spotted bass and if so, would their offspring be fertile? Seems like it is more like a subspecies of spotted bass and not its own distinct species.

I would like to see a better photo - does it have a mottled back? Looks more like a different strain than species?
I am hearing about some new DNA testing technology that is showing previous "pure" Florida LMB not so "pure"?
Anyone know anything about this?

cliffbrook that is pretty cool
how long will it be before we hear,
"i got choctaw bass in my pond (& you don't)"...lol

"Florida scientists have discovered the new species of black bass in the southeastern United States....Researchers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have proposed naming the new species the Choctaw bass and recommended the scientific name of Micropterus haiaka. FWC researchers revealed their discovery earlier this year at a meeting of the Southern Division of the American Fisheries. The FWC scientists first discovered the fish had a DNA profile different from any recognized species...as part of a broader study of bass genetics".

Fishing has never been about the fish....

From researching them some, they apparently look exactly the same as any other spotted bass. Apparently they seem to prefer a different habitat and do not intermingle with other bass species because of this.
