Check it out... in the 14 years I've lived here I've never seen so much rain. 6.6" is a little more than what NOAA has for a 50 yr, 24 hr event here. Water level got within 6" of the emergency spillway, but my 12" siphon worked as designed. It was in "siphon mode" for about 4 hours and then successfully shut itself down when the water finally dropped to the full pool level! I want to thank everyone bigtime for all the information on this forum. I relied on it heavily when I was designing the dam and the siphon. Just want to say THANKS!

nice flow, pretty cool....... does it just drain off into the woods or a stream of some sort?

Good to see a plan work correctly. I hope there are rocks at the outlet landing location to stop erosion.

Yeah, you can't tell from the picture but there's a channel there that it flows into.
Nope, rock has not been placed yet, you can see one of my piles right next to the water. I plan on extending the outlet end of the siphon so I have more room on (nearly) level ground to make it easier getting around it with my tractor. Then the rock will go in. For now, I've let the grass get tall and thick in the downstream channel to protect against the erosion and so far it's ok.
I was fortunate, but am hearing reports of other emergency spillways that were damaged and one dam that was topped. It sounds like that dam survived, but I have not seen it yet.

Allen, sure am glad your system worked. It is funny we had a 1/4 in. of rain at Chesterfield and 1 3/4 at Aylett. Take care.
Two ponds, 13 and 15 acres on the Mattaponi River.

It's nice that you can see all your planning was successful! Not a drop of rain here.

Send some our way...I am sure George, FiH, David and the others from North Texas would agree. Hoping for an inch or some sometime this week...

Boy you ain't kidding about the rain! We need it badly.
Vamaz I really like the elbow at the bottom, I think I'll add that.
Glad you got your rain.

We have had all the rain we can take. Send the ark. We are about 10 inches over normal for the year.

YTD, the DFW area has had 10 inches. Last year, at this time we had twice that and were still in a long term drought.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

It certainly did rain hard. I was awakened about midnight by the heavy rain. I got up and looked at the radar. I'm not very far from VAMAZ, but thankfully, we were on the edge of the heaviest rain -- only got about 3 inches. Most of our storms come down from the Great Lakes, or up from the Gulf. This one seemed to be coming directly from the Atlantic.
The 6" drain of my older pond still looks like VAMAZ's, and there are still several inches of water in the emergency overflow.

dhg-
So do you have a spillway or did your pipe handle it?
Ours is a half-acre pond with about 15 acres watershed. Normally there is none or little inflow from the creek unless we get a decent rain.
It was interresting how noticeable the hydrogen sulfide rotten egg odor was as the pond was siphoning (I don't have an aeration system).
