Hello - What a great site!! Looking forward to learning a lot.
We have a small pond that was dug in November of last year (located in NW Wisconsin)in a heavy deer populated area. Once full it should be around 1/2 -3/4 of acre. Just starting to learn about types of fish and proper habitat in and around the pond.
Thanks!!

Welcome to the forum your pond is definitely not small my pond is only 20 by 50 ft all dug by hand. with a pond your size you have almost unlimited options. good luck, and update us when the pond is full.
Sarcasm...yet another free service I offer.

Welcome to the forum. What town are you close to? I've got relatives in Park Falls, and a relative owns/operates Idle Hour Resort in Fifield on Pike Lake. We usually go deer hunting South of Presque Isle.

Hello Esshup, Thanks for the welcome! I live near Madison, but our farm is near a small town called Taylor, which is SW of Park Falls. Next time we go ATVing near Park Falls, I'll check out the Idle Hour Resort - do you have a running tab? Thanks Jeff

Howdy; Thanks for taking me into your group. I have been reading through your archives looking for info. Not having much luck, I am hoping you can point me in the right direction. I have bought property with about 1/3 acre pond on it, I call it a black pond it has a lot of foliage rotting in it and has turned it black. I have seen no sign of fish only turtles and frogs. Now my plans are to make this up to a 1/2 to 3/4 ac for my grandchildren to fish out of. It is feed from run off on my property, no other water source to my knowledge however there is a spring feed pond down the road from me so not sure there. I wish to enlarge it and remove a lot of pine trees from around it so not as many leaves are falling in it. I was thinking of putting floating vegetable plants in it for some plants, I know sounds crazy. I am also thinking of Geese to help clean it up as well. Everything I'm seeing on here are a lot bigger than my little pond. Can you point me in the right direction of any boards talking about this? Thanks for any help you may give me. Joe

Welcome to the forum. Your pond is larger than some ponds that people on here have, Cecil has 2 that are 1/10 acre each.
This might get lost in the shuffle tho. Would you mind starting a new thread about it? Quick short answer for you is that the gloating islands is NOT a crazy idea. The geese might not be such a good idea. They poop on average, once every 10 minutes, and will add a lot of unwanted fertilizer to your pond.

Good deal! There's things in the magazine that aren't covered here, and the magazine is a good way to build up your pond reference material. There's stuff in there that's from a few years back that I still refer to. When you get it, read the little column that is next to the index in front. You'd be suprised what's in there.......
