Well it will soon be official but for now I will say this....thank you to MY FELLOW POND OWNERS and pondboss members for your help. I posted a thread a couple weeks ago asking or advice about a property my wife and I found in Southern VA: http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=307718&page=1Well this past weekend the current owner and I were able to come to an agreement on a resonable price and we signed a contract to purchase. Thanks to the great folks of this forum like TJ aka teehjaeh57 who spent a good hour talking and giving advice on the phone with me, to Mr Mike Otto who also spent about 45 minutes on the phone with me giving me some pearls of wisdom and last but definately not least Ken aka catmandoo for dealing with question after question after question....even offering to look at a couple properties for me. It was amazing to see the support. I wouldnt have been nearly as confident in my decision if it hadnt been for this forum and the great members that are part of it. We are on a "long" timeline, probably moving out to the property in no less than 10 years but making the purchase was a huge step to our retirement. Thanks again to everyone and I look forward to asking more questions about what to do to make the fishery of my dreams!!! Mike

Mike,
Congratulations to you and your bride. I think that most of us here on the forum look at things like this as if you were a close family member. We are extremely happy for you.
That is a beautiful area to be in -- actually, to my way of thinking, there are many places in VA and WV that are wonderful places to be. Fantastic people. Four great and distinct seasons. Good overall weather. Wonderful hunting and fishing. Mountains, ocean, rural, and metropolitan areas within short distances of nearly everywhere.
As we came back from the recent Pond Boss, my wife and I both remarked at the same time how beautiful and serene it was as we got 20-30 miles into VA on I-81.
Keep us informed.
Most of all, stay safe.
Regards, Ken

Congratulations, Mike!
Sure is a great feeling to get a piece of property you like. Even better when it is paid off!
Yep, fine group of people here!!!

Congratulations on the purchase. That is a beautiful piece of property. I'm about 5 years out from retirement myself and have started looking around at properties in middle GA. I'd love top find one just like this one. Hope to see you build your dream home right next to that pond!

Where is the place in Virginia? I'm in Lynchburg, or just North of there.

Most definately. Our place is in Halifax County. Maybe 20 minutes from South Boston.
One question for the group....water level....when is it the lowest? Right now? As we hit winter but havent hit the winter storms?
The reason I ask is the water level is down a few inches from a 3-4 weeks ago. I assume as the temps cool and evaporation slows down it will regulate and then fill over the winter and spring? Sound right?

and to the Southern VA guys, did you have ponds built? If so who did you use? I will need some rennovations to clean out the pond and want a quality/reliable contractor.

Mine ponds was a gravel mining operation and did all the pond work. Good luck.
Two ponds, 13 and 15 acres on the Mattaponi River.
