Pond Boss Forums AERATION Systems questions 1/3 hp. replaced by 1/4 hp compressor?

I have a Gast 1/3 h.p. compressor I use to aerate my .62 acre pond that I purchased several years ago and it's still running strong. C.F.M. is rated at 4.2, and amp draw is about 5 amps (comes to about $25.00 per month in electricity per month for my area)

Anyway, I noticed a few years ago my supplier, Stoney Creek, has listed a 1/4 h.p. compressor in its place with the same C.F.M. rating and amp draw. Anyone know if the "1/4 h.p." could be a typo or they have made a change to a lower h.p.? I suppose I could ask them but I keep forgetting to when I order something. Just curious.

Cecil, I believe the lower HP model Gast 0523 is 220-50 or 230-60 and the 110-115V is 1/3 hp.If yours is a 1/3 HP on low volt it is probably a 0523-101Q-G582DX (if memory serves)

Cecil - A couple years ago, GAST added a new model compressor to their compressor line-up. The 1/4 hp unit that you refer to has the same output specs and almost the same compressor dimensions as the 1/3 hp 0523 series unit which is still available. The 1/4 hp motor of the 0523 series unit is designed to run 220 or 110 depending on how wiring is set up. The unit comes wired 220 from the factory and when attaching the cord I wire it for the needs of each customer. Obviously 1/4 hp unit has a slightly lower amp draw of the motor. I now only handle the 1/4 hp unit for more verisility and better efficiency for the consumer. Rebuild kits are the same part number for both units. FYI - GAST was testing another new more efficient motor for the 0523 series in 2004; however it is not available to the public yet.

I found a new gast 0523 rotary vane pump, 1/4 hp,115 volts, 1725 rpm, 4.0 amps, 1.00sf, 10 psi max. pressure,4.50 cfm open flow. By all indications this should serve my purpose if I understand the above correctly? Am I correct or did I missout somewhere? Under $395 with free shipping.

This is the newer model (Model number should be 0523-101Q-SG588DX) and can easily produce air flow to 18 ft deep. May I ask where you found it? And is all you get for $380 is a compressor, power cord and shipping? The compresor will need an intake air filter which I can tell or show you how to build / create your own homemade version. Outlet & inlet ports will be 1/4" std plumbing thread size.

My face is red I made a mistake , now for the correction. The price was $395 which included shipping and internal as well as exterior filters. This was purchased from Septic Solutions. I also purchased extra filters and a overhaul kit for future piece of mind.
