Many of our bass have a intestinal worm parasites. See photo (click on the link below).

Anyone know what kind of parasite it is?

How do they get inside the fish?

Is there any way to control them?

Someone told me that the worms indicate that our fish are stressed from over population. Is that true?

If you know about these parasites, please comment.

Thanks

As disgusting as they appear many fish can tolerate parasites. If your fish are performing well as in feeding well and have good relative weights I believe you'll be O.K. If you eat any of these fish be sure to cook them thoroughly. No sushi! grin

There is a treatment for intestinal parasites but it's more of a few fish at a time in a quarantine/treatment tank thing and it's only approved for ornamental fish. Not applicable for a pond treatment.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I know this won't help any, but this photo was taken May 26th of this year.

I had this same issue last Spring, and it was gone in a matter of weeks. A few of the LMB did have worms in their stomach, and it was in only one area of my lake, and it was in the exact same place as the year before.

This last weekend, there were no LMB with spots, and I had no dead fish. Found only 1 fish with worms. Weird deal to me too.
