Pond Boss Forums POND CONSTRUCTION Soil questions New pond sealer???

I had a client ask me about something I have never heard of. The pond is being constructed in sandy soil. He does not want to spend the money on sodium bentonite, or pvc liner. He has tried to seal it by spreading out all avail clay over the worst sandy spots. He said someone mentioned in FLA they spray with a grass that takes hold in sandy soil and in the process makes the soil hold water better. Anyone know what he is talking about?? Thanks, Greg

Greg, Sounds like the Hydro Mulching that they do on the sides of Highways. That stuff is only meant for erosion control. I believe that I would be leery of any product that claimed to make sand a non-aquifer. I have also personally tried bentonite 3 times on old, silted in stock tanks that I have cleaned out and hit sand. I've never been successful with it. Maybe a bentonite professional would be.

Dave, I thought the same thing. He siad it was different than the hydroseeding stuff. Oh well I guess know here knows either, so I'm advising him to not be a "sucker".

I beleive the product that know one knows about is called ESS-13 it is a liquid polymer emulsion that is either poured directly into the water or mixed with the soil and compacted it Has a lot of advantages over pvc or bentonite. The price is cheaper and it is much easier to install.The time it takes to install a liner and the prep work is not needed it has been around since the fifties and is a really good product to use if you have a pond that you already have water in and dont want to drain and try to seal. this stuff can be poured right into the water to seal just about any leak or seapage that is causing the problem. I have more info on this product if anybody needs it. Oh did I mention that it,s guarenteed! DOC

I forgot to mention that in order to use this product the water can stay in the pond but the fish will have to be removed. It is environmentaly safe to use but will adhere to the gills of fish causing suffocation.If anybody needs info contact me at lakedoctors@ccrtc.com DOC

Sure Bob I will probably be doing a pond that was built by just pushing the clay out
of the bottom down to the hard rock the holes in this pond are huge it has not held water since it was constructed.I would be glad to let anybody that is interested a glimse of this process just let me know how you want to get together on this.
