I introduced 12 pounds of 2" FH one month ago and 4 pounds of 2" GS 6 weeks ago to my new 4ac predator free pond. I noticed this last weekend the pond is full of 1/2" fish. I didn't expect their fry to already be that big. Is this typical? Thanks!

FHM will spawn about once a month if the conditions are right, and they have spawning habitat.

Golden Shiners (GSH) were full of eggs last week in this area.

If you can, catch some of the little fish, take a good clear side view pic of them and post them. We could ID them for you to be sure.

Sounds typical to me. I stocked my pond with 10 pounds of FH in late March and 5 pounds more in early April, no predators. The pond already has swarms of young FHs, measuring from 1/4 inch to at least 3/4 inch. Clouds of them.

Yup, sounds normal to me as well. FHM are prolific and grow fast if not crowded which in a new pond they shouldn't be.
