Happy Easter to all!

I have enjoyed a better pond as a result of reading this forum and Pondboss Magazine for nearly 3 years. Thanks. Still not where I need to be, but its a lot better.

I have a question. Though I have stocked more BG, RES, Tilapia for 2 years, added Lime, aerated, fed etc., I still am run over with LMB. I try to cull all under 14" but still have tons. There are a few bigger ones now. I caught a 4lb one last year, but want it to be better. I dont think there are any over 4-5 lbs and not many of them. My question is - will the larger LMB eat smaller LMB, thus help me with the culling?

Hey Rick, are you still having problems with the pond leaking?

Happy Easter to everyone on PB.

Grace and Peace !

FR yes big LMB will eat small ones. Heck small ones will try to eat smaller ones. I would not rely on that concept to balance things however. Get some scouts to come by and help you take out some small ones. Also a shock boat is effective at removing small LMB. You may need to take out 30 lbs of small LMB per acre per year.

FYI

Read these threads on PSD for guidelines which include comments from the Prof who developed the concept Richard Anderson.

Keep taking <12 in bass until the number 8-12 equals number 12-15. Ideal pond structure is 40% 8-12, 40% 12-15 and 20% 15+

Ap yes leaks and evap about 3" per week. Need rain already. did you find magic bullet?

Eric, Thanks for the info. Have asked the neighbors to come help get 'm out.

All, Please advise bait most likely to catch lmb other than minnows and worms. What would they jump in the boat for if the knew it was there?

No magic bullet Rick, my Dam leak increased in late Nov. and pond dropped over 4ft. even though I was pumping in 17gpm all winter.
Last week I found the weak area on the Dam between 2 large bolders on the pond side and boxed it in with pressure treated plywood, then filled that in with dirt. I have the pond filling now with 110gpm from my siphon pipes, we'll see what happens.

Spring is normal again, here's what it looks like today.

Rick that web cam isn't mine, it's on a small lake about a mile from the cabin.

I'm going up to the pond tomorrow to see how the Dam repair is working, the pond should be full now if there's no big problems. I guess the only good way to fix a leak is stuff money into it. laugh
