The day before yesterday I transplanted my spiral ell grass using the shovel and yesterday I waded the pond in my chest waders looking at plants and bugs close up and found some ell grass floating in the water. So I grabbed them and planted single plants in what will become 6 or 7 feet deep water when the drought is broken. The shovel transplanting and the day after wading transplanting of the loose floating ell grass will surly give me a heavy pasture of pond ell grass eventually, based on the way it has grown so far.

Hey john,

Thanks for all the info, I am intrigued by this plant. I am considering ptting some in my own 1/4acre pond, with a steep gradient. How deep did you plants grow in the water this year? I am using my pond for some swimming and would like to keep the center, about 12 feet deep, clear of plants. Your response is most appreciated.

I planted my plants in 2 to 3 feet of water and they grew well but this drought has killed a lot of them as the water has dropped about 4 feet. Even some of the further out transplants have ended up out of the water from the drought. I'm not sure just how deep these plants will grow in but probably a lot depends on the clarity of the water. I would guess they wouldn't grow in deep water and they are only about 6 inches high so I wouldn't think they would interfere with swimming.
