Well I have been out of touch on this site for a couple years but am now back. Well we finally recd about 6' of rain over the past couple days in Ga. Here is my question. I have a 8' drain and the water is about 5' above the top of the drain so the water is blowing out the other end. Where the water comes out of the 8' PVC it is actually about 6' under water also. Because the outlet is not above the water I am curiouse if this is creating additional pressure on my glued joints since the outlet is also below the water. I know that I need to dig a trech to allow the water to drain lower on the outlet side which would then make the water level below the outlet. But in the meantime do you think i have a problem?
Thanks to all.

Big Jake. I am not a pond expert and have come today to learn about drains myself; however, I have taught a little Physics and know that the pressure is greater the deeper you go. I can imagine at just a few inches of depth that the pressure would be that great on any joint. You are saying 8', surely you mean 8" (inches).

I am hoping to figure out what size of drain I would need to avoid the exact scenario that you are describing. It seems like a very complex calculation to determine the rate of flow into my pond that would require a certain diameter pipe to flow out of the pond, so I am curious to see what others have done. Thanks for the information.

A little over-engeneering can go a long way. Bigger is always better.

I believe in catch and release. I catch then release to the grease..

I got a 4 foot intake pipe and a 3 foot drain pipe. 400 acres of runoff. Had it spec'd by prof engineering group. What's your peace of mind worth?
