Yea. Sorry about the temporary sidetrack.
One way to be certain that you will have no problems would be to have a sample of the water coming from your home tested. It may cost a little to have a comprehensive test done, but you will at least have some idea of what you may or may not be adding to your pond.

Chrissnow, don't get bogged down by this healthy scientific discussion. Neither your water softener nor your pipes will cause issues with your pond project.

Hello

Sorry I don't read this forum on a regular bases and I should.

First I would like to add, copper effects are multiplied in SOFT WATER and Reduced in Hard Water. Hard water has more Parts Per Million of particles for the Copper to attach to and therefore less loose copper is available. I am surprised no one brought this up because it is important when doing maximum curative algae treatment.

Next: It is also my under standing that a certain percentage of salt is used as a disease preventative in Koi ponds. Salt effects certain Microbial and reduces population. Therefore less microbes for the third side of a disease triangle. And once again Hard water will be effected different than Soft water. Hard will already have a higher percentage of salt compared to soft water.

The concept of "copper toxicity in soft water" has been discussed numerous times during the lifespan of this forum - and even mentioned earlier in this thread (although relevancy toward the topic was questionable).
